How The QTRA System Works
Quantified Tree Risk Assessment (QTRA)
At Dartforest Ltd. we are licensed and experienced users of QTRA risk system for assessing the risk trees might pose to persons or property. The Quantified Tree Risk Assessment (QTRA) system applies established and accepted risk management principles to tree safety management.
Initially, an evaluation of potential targets such as roads, property, people etc., are assessed and how the trees may pose a risk to these targets. This assessment enables tree managers to ascertain the necessity and extent of a survey or inspection for the trees.
The next stage we examine what part of the tree is most likely to fail, either completely or partially, and determine its size along with the probability of failure. By consolidating the values from the assessments of the target, impact potential, and probability of failure, we calculate the overall likelihood of harm occurring.
The system moves the management of tree safety away from labelling trees as either “safe” or “unsafe”, thereby requiring definitive statements of tree safety from either tree surveyors or tree managers. Instead, QTRA quantifies the risk of significant harm from tree failure in a way which enables tree managers to balance safety with tree value and operate to a predetermined limit of reasonable or acceptable risk.
