Conservation and rewilding
Rewilding begins with a plan!
Rewilding is more than just abandoning the land, it means setting the space to give the natural landscape the potential to re-establish itself with biodiversity and balance. Ensuring that the correct species are introduced to work in harmony with the landscape and the existing environment, to enable nature to work its magic and create the biodiversity we all want for future generations.
The first steps towards creating a management plan are to survey the site, collect data on the species and features already present and prepare a management plan which sets out long-term aims and objectives for the landscape. In doing so, we can provide you with a bespoke plan that suits the needs of local wildlife and the wider landscape.
Once the plan is formulated and agreed with the landowners, Dartforest can begin the process of putting the plan into action, overseeing every step of the project to include supply, planting and where required, landscaping to provide access and encourage human enjoyment of the spaces, in a manner that is positive for the site.
Conservation management
Maintaining and supporting biodiversity
Rewilding and Conservation isn’t just a one-off process. Woodlands benefit from sympathetic intervention, to help encourage growth and biodiversity, especially in the early years.
The team at Dartforest Ltd. have developed sustainable solutions to incorporate art and craft of timber products from arisings in woodlands . Where woodlands are thinned or trees removed for access we try to incorporate this timber resource into management plans for woodland conservation or woodland crafts.
We can create open glades for seating and access into parts sections of a woodland by creating paths, steps and railings from the woodland thinning or fallen trees.

Estate Biodiversity Enhancement
Biodiversity Management Plans
Whether you are rewilding an estate, enhancing smaller sites or restoring habitats in farmland, you need a Biodiversity Management Plan!
The BMP should lay out the specific goals for biodiversity, eg which species and habitats you will encourage, and the means by which these goals will be achieved, including the establishment of specific habitat enhancements, their maintenance and monitoring.

Habitat Restoration & Creation
Protecting and restoring our valuable eco-habitats requires planning and ongoing management to be sustainable. The health of these ecosystems affects us all.
Working with a landowners, estate managers, private individuals government agencies, local authorities, conservation groups and companies, Dartforest consults on rewilding and habitat restoration projects across the UK.
Wildflower planting
Planting Wildflower Meadows
We offer advice and planning to anyone that wants to create a wildflower meadow and encourage wildlife, whether it is in a garden or a field, large or small. Just scattering a few seeds without examining the soil, terrain and existing local environment is not going to achieve your goals.
Creating a sustainable wildflower meadow is not only creating a place of beauty, but to enhance biodiversity and improve habitat. This in turn encourages nature, wildlife and many types of pollinators.
Woodland management
Woodland Restoration & Conservation
Active woodland management provides benefits to wildlife, alongside the health and wellbeing of local communities. Improving the ecological condition of existing woodlands helps improve biodiversity, conserves threatened species and address problems caused by invasive species, pests and diseases.
We help owners to understand their woodland and implement management plans designed to improve habitat condition and biodiversity.
